Siri Will Never Work Properly Unless You Give It All Your Data
I sort of feel bad for all those people who bought iPhone 16's with the expectation that they would be getting all these AI features that now appear won't be coming anytime soon (if ever). I never found Siri useful at all and it always felt like it didn't work very well compared to my (short) expericence with the Echo. Privacy concerns have had Siri completely disabled on all my devices for years.
A Wired article from last Sunday theorizes that in order for all the AI features Apple touted will require giving up your privacy. I would agree:
Apple says Siri will be “equipped with awareness of your personal context, the ability to take action in and across apps, and product knowledge about your devices’ features and settings.”
There's no way any of this is possible without completely giving all your personal information and data to this system. Along with that, giving this system "the ability to take action in and across apps" without your intervention seems like a terrible idea. Someone is going to possibly end up with their bank accounts drained via this thing. Private info could get sent to the wrong person without or knowledge or anyway to stop it.
Nope, sorry. For me this is remaining disabled with semi-weekly checks to remain sure it stays that way since Apple has a pesky habit of re-enabling things you've shut off during updates.
